A fine and heavy Mid 20th Century Vintage English Brass Door Porter / Doorstop, modelled as "Mr. Pickwick" and produced for members of the Pickwick Bicycle Club, the world's oldest male cycling club, founded by six men in London in 1870 and still going strong with a long waiting list of eager would be entrants. The founders chose Pickwick as it's name following the then recent death of the author, Charles Dickens, and all members wear a special uniform as well as adopting character names from his novels. Originally produced c. 1930 in a numbered series of 500, No. 11 of which passed through our stock in September 2012, these delightful, { and practical } items rarely come up for sale in today's marketplace.
