A large, sparsely coloured but attractive Mid 19th Century Antique English Victorian Equestrian Royal Portrait Pottery Figure, with raised gilt titling, of the Duke of Cambridge ~ P C158 ~ H 722. George William Frederick Charles, Duke of Cambridge { 1819 - 1904 }, a grandson of George III, married Louisa Farebrother, an actress. The marriage was never officially recognised by Queen Victoria, as, at the time, a Royal was not permitted to marry a commoner, and as a result, she was never granted the title of Duchess. Commander-in-Chief of the Army from 1856 - 95, the Duke was appointed Field Marshal in 1862. During the Crimean War of 1854 - 56, he was wounded at the Battle of Inkerman and fell gravely ill, his wife then following him to the Crimea and nursing him back to health.
