Printed in a medium blue palette with the "Gothic Castle" pattern, { Spode Pattern No. P708 }, unmarked, but this recognised as being one of the few of Spode's patterns so issued. Hot-Water plates were designed to keep an invalid's food warm whilst enjoying a meal, and can be found, although with some difficulty today, decorated in a variety of Spode patterns.
