An interesting Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Brass Chimney Ornament : "Napoleon Crossing the Alps", after the famous painting by Jacques-Louis David, five versions of which he painted between 1801 and 1805.  Despite the ultimate failure of his military campaigns, and the fear which he had instilled in the British Establishment, Napoleon remained, much to the dismay of the authorities, the focus of much admiration and popular support in Republican circles in the United Kingdom throughout the early part of the Nineteenth Century. The perfect desk ornament / paperweight for the avid Francophile !
