An attractive Early Nineteenth Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer "Castle" Pattern Pottery Vegetable Dish and Cover, one of a pair presently available, by James and Ralph Clews of Cobridge, Staffordshire, { 1817 - 1834 }, each available separately and here listed and priced as such. Both dish and cover are printed in a medium blue palette in the "Castle" pattern, first used by Spode, the scene taken from the aquatint, "The Gate of Sebastian at Capena", contained in "Views of Rome and it's Vicinity", published by J. Merigot, 28 Haymarket, and R. Edwards, 142 New Bond Street, London, in 1796 - 1798, this set within a foliate border. The underside of each dish with good stilt marks, printed with a border of vignettes taken from the main source print and each fully marked with both impressed and underglaze blue printed Maker's Marks of the period, together with the printed Importer's Mark of John Greenfield of New York, viz :- J.
