A fine Late 19th Century Antique English Victorian Doulton Lambeth Silver Mounted Stoneware Tyg, bearing the monogram of one of Doulton's most collectable artists, Florence Elizabeth Barlow. This early work is dated 1876, just three years after Florence joined her sister Hannah, who had herself begun work at the Doulton Lambeth Art Studio in 1871. The tyg is unusual in that the piece is decorated in "sgraffito" with cattle, goats and a donkey, this notwithstanding that, by mutual consent, it had been decided by the sisters that Florence would paint flowers and birds and Hannah would concentrate on horses and other animals. Further, not only is the base signed with the artist's monogram, but is fully marked with the Doulton Lambeth impressed mark of the period { c. 1869 - 77 }, the date of production, 1876, being here present within a circular variation of Godden's Mark No. 1340, which was, according to Geoffrey Godden, rarely used. The applied silver rim of the period and fully hallmarked for London 1876.
