Apprenticed to Edward Leapidge, { Cotterell 2894 }, whose sister Anne, { Cotterell 2892A }, he later married, and elected to the Freedom of the Pewterers Company on 10 August 1727, Smith was a partner in the firm of Smith and Leapidge and was twice gazetted a Bankrupt, in 1755 and 1761.
